Filter Maintenance
Filters are a key component to a swimming pool's filtration system, and are a vital part to maintaining the health of a pool. Filters need to be cleaned periodically to insure proper equipment performance and cleanliness of the pool water. As debris, from the water, collects on the filter, the flow of water is hindered. This can result in cloudy water, poor circulation, bacteria growth, and excessive wear on the pool equipment.
Another effect of clogged filters is problems with the pool pump. It could back up and flood, causing a lot of damage. Regular pool filter maintenance can prevent future costly repairs.
With normal usage, filter cartridges can last up to 2000 operation hours. This means you will most likely have to replace the filter cartridge once every 2or 3 years. Without proper maintenance, the lifespan of a filter can be greatly decreased.
The signs of needing to replace the pool filter cartridges are:
- High PSI reading - This indicates the cartridge is under a strain due to a clogged and dirty cartridge
- Cracked or Broken Caps - The caps act as
- bookends binding the cartridge material into a tight and compact form. If you continue using a cartridge with a broken end cap, parts of the plastic may get circulated through your pool’s filtration system, which can cause extensive damage to the system.
- Flat Pleats - This causes the cartridge to lose its cleaning ability.
- Fraying Fabrics - Once the fabric rips, or frays, it will allow debris into the pool pump.
